Construction and geometric features
- 'Elastic' steel body for significantly greater torsional stiffness in comparison with solid carbide thread formers
- Inserts made of tough, wear-resistant fine-grain carbide substrate
- Stable joint between body and insert through flank-centred holding, with central mounting hole in the insert and radial drive tangs on the body
- Both components are positively connected by a bolt
- The number of pressure edges is ideally matched to the thread pitch
- Specially developed rounding of the insert's tapping head provides better coating adhesion and longer tool life
- FETTE TiCN-Plus PVD multilayer coating
Advantages of the HPF former over one-piece thread formers
- Significantly higher circumferential speeds, and therefore shorter machining times are possible in comparison with solid carbide formers, because the high torque required for thread forming from the carbide forming head (insert) is passed through the tang to the tough shaft.
- This constructive solution makes it possible to form threads reliably using the FETTE HPF former, and yet to avoid tool breakage even at high torques.
- The end of the useful life of a solid carbide former is also the end of the entire tool, whereas with the FETTE-HPF only the carbide forming head needs to be changed.
- Lower tool costs in comparison with one-piece solid carbide formers.
